Introduction to Recycle Bin – What is Recycle Bin

When Files, Folders etc. are deleted in Windows OS. Then they are not permanently deleted. And go to a Special Directory or Folder. This special folder or directory is called Recycle Bin.

Deleted items are stored in the Recycle Bin. From where they can also be restored to reuse later. Or Permanently Delete can also be done.

Recycle Bin is being used since Windows 95 Version. And since then Recycle Bin has remained useful for Windows users. Because from here Accidently Deleted Item can be easily restored.

Show Recycle Bin Icon on Desktop

The By Default Recycle Bin icon appears on the Desktop. Because here is its only place. And when you start Windows for the first time, this is also the first icon visible in Windows. If Recycle Bin is not showing in your computer then follow the steps mentioned below.

Step: 1 First of all right-click on any empty space on the desktop.

Step: 2 Now click on Personalize (in Windows 7).

Step: 3 From here on the top left corner click on Change desktop icon.

Step: 4 Now Desktop Icon Settings Windows will open in front of you.

Step: 5 From here you check the check box in front of the Recycle Bin. And see on Desktop. Here the Recycle Bin will be visible.

Opening the Recycle Bin

Recycle Bin Limitations

Data can remain in the Recycle Bin until it is deleted. But, still there are some limitations of this location, which are also important to know about. Because not every Deleted Item can be moved to the Recycle Bin.

Delete Items Permanently from Recycle Bin

Delete Individual File

  • Step: 1 Select the file which you want to delete.

Emptying the Recycle Bin

Step: 1 To delete all the files from Recycle Bin at once, click on the button Empty the Recycle Bin above.

Note: – Delete the items with the Shift Key, they are permanently deleted. And do not go to the Recycle Bin.

Recycle Bin Properties

To customize Recycle Bin according to your need, it is very important to understand Recycle Bin Properties. To open Properties

  • Step: 1 First of all open Recycle Bin and click on Organize.
  • Step: 2 Then click on Properties.
  • Step: 3 By doing this the Recycle Bin Properties window will open in front of you.

In the first part, the Hard Drive Partitions present in your computer are shown. Along with the Available Space is also shown.
Within the second part, Settings for selected location, you can do two settings.
You can set Custom Recycle Bin Space for Particular Location. And
Don’t move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted. You can prevent items from going to the Recycle Bin by selecting the Radio Button.
You can show and hide this Dialog Box by Display Confirmation Dialog Option. If you want to show it then check it. And if you want to hide then uncheck it.
