Each particular part of a computer is called a device.
A computer has four main types of devices.

• Storage devices.

Input devices:

The computer parts which help you to give instructions to the computer are called input devices.

The keyboard: The keyboard is a input device used to enter data into the computer system. it can type words, numbers and symbols. it is a commonly used input device

The mouse: The mouse is a pointing device. we can give input and select any potion or object with the help of a mouse we can also the mouse to draw pictures.

Joystick: A joystick is a device used to play games. when it is moved, the objects move in the same direction. it is very popular among children.

The scanner: A scanner can copy text and pictures and put them into the computer. it works like a photocopier.

Processing Device

all the data input are sorted, arranged and changed into meaningful information by the computer. it is done by a processing device. the processing device in a computer are the central processing unit (CPU) and the memory chips. these are located inside the CPU tower.

Output Devices

The parts of computer that give us result (output) are called output devices. some important output devices are:

Monitor: It helps you to see what you have typed. it also shows the result or the output on its screen. the result you see on it is called softcopy.

Printer: A printer is used to print the output on the paper. this output is called a hard copy output.

Speakers: Speakers are the sound output devices. they are used to listen to music on computer.

Storage Devices

The parts in the computer that store your computer work are storage devices. you can open that stored work at any time later. storage devices help you to store your work permanently.
There are many storage devices on which you can store your work permanently.

Hard disk: It is the major storage device fixed inside the CPU cabinet. you cannot see it. the work you do on a computer is first stored on it. from a hard disk, the stored work can be copied or transferred to a CD, DVD or a Pen drive.
These devices are also called transferable devices.
