There are many different tools in Word that you can use to edit your documents. Probably one of the most effective ways to edit your documents is to use the mouse with a full pan.

But it is seen that this method is used very rarely. The reason for this is probably that many users are still not aware that you can do the simple task of copy-pasting or cutting the text with your mouse. Not only this, you will also be able to move other elements, such as a graphic, using your mouse.

However, this method can only move the text from one place to another (within the area you see on the screen). Because in this you use the mouse to drag-move or drag-copy the text. If you can see directly on the screen, then only you can copy or move text between two places. But it can save you a lot of time.

So let’s see how you can easily move text with your mouse.

To move text with your mouse, you first need to make sure that this feature is enabled in MS Word.

Follow the steps given below to know:

Enabling Mouse Functions

In Word, click Options in the File menu.

Now a dialog box of Options will open.

Enabling Mouse Functions

To the left of the dialog box, click Advanced.

Make sure the check box next to the Allow Text to Be Dragged and Dropped option is checked. (This option is in the Editing section.)

Now click on OK to close the dialog box.

Bus! Once this option is enabled, you can use your mouse by following the steps below:

Select the text you want to move.

Click on the text with the mouse and drag it to where you want it.

Release the mouse button.

If you want to copy your text (instead of actually moving it), you can press and hold the Ctrl button with the Keyword while dragging it with the mouse.

Moving Text Between Two Word Documents

It is not possible to transfer text only in the same word document with this trick. You can use it to move text between two different word documents.

But to do this, you have to restore at least one word window so that you can see both documents at the same time. You can then drag the text from the document to another document.

You may be surprised to know that you can actually transfer selected text between different Microsoft Office applications as well.

For example, using the same principle described above, you can transfer text from a Word document to an Excel spreadsheet. Or even in a PowerPoint presentation.
