MS Excel Data Tab

In this tutorial, we will tell you about the Data Tab of MS Excel. The main use of Excel’s Data Tab is to manage data. You can activate the Data Tab of MS Excel by pressing Alt + A from the keyboard. Or you can also use it by mouse.

The Data Tab is divided into several groups. Each group has commands related to a specific task. You can use these commands by pressing the mouse. Below we will tell you how many groups are there in the Data Tab? And what is the function of the commands available in each group.

Names and Functions of Groups of Data Tab

There are total 5 groups in the Data Tab. You can see them in the screen shot shown above. The names of these groups are Get External Data, Connections, Sort & Filter, Data Tools and Outline respectively. Now you have become familiar with the Groups of the Data Tab. Let us now know the work of each group.

1- Get External Data In Excel

The commands available in this group are used to import data from external sources into MS Excel. You can import data from MS Access, Web, Text and other sources like SQL Database etc.

2- Connections In Excel

This group is used to see all the connections to the data available in the workbook. If the data in the workbook has been imported from external sources, then you can update the data connections by refreshing them.

3- Sort & Filter In Excel

The data available in the workbook can be sorted by the commands available in this group. You can sort the data into different categories by ascending order, descending order and Advance Filter.

4- Data Tool In Excel

This group is very important. You can make Data Reports interactive by the commands available in this group. Duplicate data can be removed. You can divide the data into columns. If you want, you can also validate the data.

5- Outline In Excel

There are many useful commands in this group too. By which our data can become more understandable. You can combine Rows and Columns into a group by Group Commands. Their total, sub-total can be done. You can also hide additional information.
