Many of you must know what is Input Device (What is Input Device ), but there are many for whom this term is completely new. Here I am talking about some external parts of the computer. These are some such parts of computers, which we help in giving and removing data.

Everyone is using Laptop and Desktop nowadays. In this digital world, it has become impossible to do anything without a computer. You must know that many devices are used in Laptop and Desktop.

With which you can operate and control the computer very easily. One of those devices is the input device which has made our work very easy. So in today’s article let us know from bed what is input device.

What is input device

An input device is an electronic device through which we can enter data into the device. It is a part of computer. Any device through which we input anything into a computer or personal computer is called an input device. Some examples of this are Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner, microphone, Light Pen. With all these put devices, we do some input inside the computer.

It is a hardware through which we interact with the computer and control it. Like selecting different icons from the mouse, selecting the option. We input text through the same keyboard and operate the laptop with the arrow key.

With the help of this, we are able to get all the work done from the computer. It connects the human-world to the computer-world. With the help of these, we give instruction to the computer, and understanding the computer instruction takes some action. Now below are the examples of Input Devices, let’s understand them well.

Types Of Input Devices

Keyboard:

This is the most important input device. With the help of this, we can do all the writing work of the computer. It is one of the most used devices. With the help of this we can write anything. What you are reading now is also written with this keyboard

For example, we use it for sending emails, sending messages, online transfer, online shopping and other things. In all these works, we need a keyboard.

Keys and Description

Typing Keys
These are the keys with which we use to write something in the computer. such as (A-Z) and (a-z).

Numeric Key
Number can be written with these keys like (0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9)

Function Keys
These are 12 keys in the computer, which remain in the same line above the keyboard. F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7, F8, F9, F10, F11, F12. Each function key is used for a different function.

Control keys and Arrow Keys
These keys are used to control Cursor and Screen. Like Arrow or Directional keys, which are used to move the cursor up, down, right, left. Control Keys are used to make Screen Control and Shortcut key. EX-Home, End, Insert, Delete, Page Up, Page Down and Ctrl(Control),Alternate(Alt), Escape(Esc).

Ctrl+c is used to copy. Ctrl+x to cut.

Special Purpose Keys
These keys are there to do certain things with the keyboard like Enter, Shift, Caps Lock, Num Lock, Spacebar, Tab, and Print Screen. Every key has a special purpose.

Mouse:

It is also known as pointing device and cursor moving device. A mouse can have 2 or 3 buttons. Such as Left, Right and Middle buttons (Left key, Right key, Middle key Roller). The use of this mouse has increased the importance of Graphical User Interface in the computer. The mouse is placed on the flat surface or on the mouse pad. It is used to control the cursor.

Left Key
In the computer screen, some icons are used to select and open files, folders. When the Left Key is pressed once, it is called Left Click.

Right Key-
Pressing the Right Key opens the Sub Menu in the screen. The process of pressing the Right Key is called Right Click.

Middle Button-
The screen is used to scroll up and down. Scroll Button is also called.

how does it work

A rubber ball or laser light is placed under it. When the mouse is moved on a surface, this rubber ball rotates or the laser light moves. Its speed and direction is converted into the speed and direction of the mouse pointer on the monitor, in some way the mouse works.

Joystick :-

Joystick is an input device. Acts like a trackball. There are two balls in it. A stick is attached to the balls so that the ball can be easily rotated. It is used in playing video games, CAD design and simulator training etc. When we move it to the left, it moves from inside to the right. The top ball is used for direction and the inner ball moves in the socket.

Light Pen :-

Its shape is like a pen. It is a printing device and pointing device. With its help, it can be written on the computer screen. Pictures can be drawn, bar codes can be read.

Photocell and optical system are present inside the small tube of this pen.

How does it work

When the Light Pen is moved above the screen and the Pen Button is pressed. So then the photocell detects the location of the screen and sends the corresponding signal of that location to the CPU. Works something like this.

Scanner :-

Using a scanner, written papers and photographs can be converted into digital images and stored in memory. Documents can also be scanned and stored in the computer through the scanner.

Processing can also be done by computer on these digital images. Processing means you can edit the scanned document.

How does it work

Scanner puts a shining light on the document. The light which reflects the image of a document and this light remains in the photo sensitive element. There is a device named Charged Couple Device, it stores the charged light inside the computer by making a digital image. You can also edit the document before printing.

Microphone

This is also an input device. Converts Souds to Digital Form and stores it. Like you use Audio Recorder and Voice Recorder.

Their application is very high, video recording, these microphones contribute a lot in making movies. Receives the sound, converts it into digital signal and also outputs through the speaker.
