What is Computer Mouse Its Use Full Details
Learn Free Computer Tutorial 17 Full Details
We use our hands to lift, hold, carry, move things in the outside world.
But, if you have to do the same work on a computer, how will you do it? Because computers do not have hands. Then how will this work? (Computer Mouse)
Let us tell you.
Actually, the computer also has a hand for all these tasks. Yes, you read right one hand.
You know this hand by the name of Mouse. So let’s know what is this mouse? And how is the mouse used?
What is Mouse
Mouse is an input device, whose real name is Pointing Device. It is mainly used to select, move towards and open and close items on the computer screen. The user gives instructions to the computer through the mouse. Through this the user can access anywhere on the computer screen. (Computer Mouse)
The computer mouse was invented in 1968 by Douglas C. Engelbart, a World War II soldier.
A simple computer mouse usually looks like a real mouse. It is small and rectangular, which is connected to the computer by a cable. It is something like this.
A simple mouse usually has three buttons, which can be seen in the picture above.
The first and second buttons are known as Primary Button (Left Button) and Secondary Button (Right Button) respectively.
These are called Right Click and Left Click in common language. And the third button is also called Scroll Wheel or Chakri. In the modern mouse, now more than three buttons have started coming, which have a different function.
Different Types of Computer Mouse
The mouse has completed its journey in many stages. During this time many different forms of it were developed. Which we can mainly divide into the following five types. (Computer Mouse)
- Mechanical Mouse
- Optical Mouse
- Wireless Mouse
- Trackball Mouse
- Stylus Mouse
1 Mechanical Mouse
This mouse was invented in 1972 by Bill English. Mechanical mouse used a ball for instructions. That’s why it is also called Ball Mouse.
This ball could be swung right-left and up-down.
2 Optical Mouse
Works on LED – Light Emitting Diode and DSP – Digital Signal Processing technology in this mouse. There are no balls in the optical mouse. In its place, a small bulb is installed.
That’s why the pointer moves when the mouse is moved. And through the button present in it, we give instructions to the computer. Nowadays this type of mouse is used.
They are connected to the computer through a wire. Which also supplies electricity to it. Optical Mouse is easy to use.
3 Wireless Mouse
A wireless mouse without a wire is called a wireless mouse. It is also called Cordless Mouse. This mouse is based on Radiofrequency (RF) technology. But its texture is like an optical mouse.
Therefore, a transmitter and receiver are needed to use it. Transmitter is made in the mouse itself. And the receiver is made separately. which is installed in the computer.
Battery is required to operate this mouse. That’s why we also have to buy a small battery separately.
4 Trackball Mouse
The texture of this mouse is also like some optical mouse. But trackball is used for control in this.
In order to give instructions to the computer, the user has to move the ball with his finger or thumb. This mouse does not give us much control. And it also takes time to run.
5 Stylus Mouse
This type of mouse is also called gStick Mouse. Because the Stylus Mouse was invented by Gordon Stewart. That’s why ‘g’ in gStick means Gordan. (Computer Mouse)
See how a gStick Mouse works.
This mouse looks like a pen. In which there is also a wheel. This wheel can be moved up and down. It is mostly used for Touchscreen Devices.
Different forms of Mouse Pointer/Cursor and their meaning
Now, we are familiar with Mouse. But have you wondered one thing that how do we recognize the mouse on the computer screen?
Come on, let’s try to figure it out too.
Actually, Mouse is a Pointer Device, you have already known it. According to its name, Mouse uses some shapes to point towards the item on the computer screen, which is called Mouse Pointer.
You know Mouse Pointer as Cursor. It also keeps changing its form according to its position on the computer screen. In which position the pointers change their form, it is explained in detail below.
Functions of Mouse
Mouse is a multifunctional tool, with the help of which many tasks can be done. Mouse is mostly used for lifting, holding, placing etc. items on the computer screen.
But, how are all these things done? To do this, the mouse does some actions. What are these actions? How are they done? Come on, let’s know. (Computer Mouse)
1 Pointing
When the Cursor is moved towards an item on the computer screen, and the Pointer touches that item, a box appears. Which tells us about that item.
2 Selecting
After pointing at an item on the computer screen, pressing the Left Button of the mouse once, that item gets selected. This is called Selecting.
When an item is selected, there is a square around it, which shows that this item is selected.
3 Clicking
The action of pressing the mouse button is called Click. To click, press any mouse button and release it. Click is of two types
- Left Click: Pressing the Left button of the mouse is called Left Click. Its types are as follows.
- Single Click – Single Click – Pressing the left button of the mouse once and releasing it is called Single Click. Selecting an item, opening a menu, opening a link available on a webpage, etc., are done through Single Click.
- Double Click – Double Click is done by pressing the left button of the mouse twice simultaneously. Double Click acts like a shortcut in a way. By this any item, file, program etc. can be opened. Apart from this, double click is also used to select any word in a document.
- Triple Click – Triple Click is done by pressing the left button of the mouse three times simultaneously.
- Triple Click is used very rarely. Through this, the entire paragraph in a document can be selected.
- Right Click: Pressing the Right button of the mouse is called Right Click. Right clicking on an item opens a list of actions that can be done with that item.
4 Dragging and Dropping
Any item available on the computer screen can be moved from one place to another through the mouse. For this, the dragging and dropping action of the mouse is used.
To select an item with the mouse pointer, press and hold the left button on that item and drag that item to its desired place and release the button. This whole task (drag and drop) is called Dragging and Dropping.
5 Scrolling
Moving a document, webpage up and down by the mouse wheel is called scrolling. To slide up, the wheel has to be turned on its side and to slide down, it has to be turned outwards.
