How to Create Unit of Measure in Tally

We can create Unit of Measure in the same way as we create Stock Category in Tally, this is a very important task because without this Voucher Entry cannot be done in Tally.

1. First of all go to Gateway of Tally.
2. Now let us select Inventory Info.
3. Click on Unit of Measure.
4. Under Units we will get the option of Create.
5. Click on Create.

7. Select Simple Unit,
8. Now type the symbol of Unit of Measure like – KG, Gm, Ltr, Pcs etc.
9. Give the formal name of the unit.
10. Select Unit Quantity Code.
11. Keep Number of Decimal Place as 0.
12. Save by pressing the Screen Ctrl + A button.

Simple Unit of Measure in Tally –

Unit of Measure is used for Measurement of Stock in Tally, for this we create Simple Unit, by which we can measure Stock, for example bought 200 KG bars from Shree Laxman Traders. In this example, the bar is a stock item, for which KG – Kilograms have been used.

1. KG – Kilograms
2. Nos – Numbers
3. Pcs – Pisces
4. Gm – Grams
5. BDL – Bundle
6. Can – Cans
7. MTR – Meters
8. MTS – Meteoric Ton

Simple Unit of Measure in Tally can be created in this way –

1. Goto Gateway of Tally.
2. Select Inventory Info.
3. Click on Unit of Measure.
4. Click on Create.
5. Select Simple Unit,
6. Type Symbol like – KG, Gm, Nos, Pcs etc.
7. Give the formal name of the Simple Unit.
8. Select Unit Quantity Code.
9. Keep Number of Decimal Place as 0.
10. Save by pressing Ctrl + A button.

Compound Unit of Measure in Tally –

Compound Unit of Measure means Combine Unit of Measure i.e. when we make a new unit by adding two units it is called Compound Unit of Measure, like 2 kg 500 grams of sugar is bought, here Kilograms is a unit of the same Grams is a separate unit, as we know that there are 1000 grams in a kilogram, when we enter the tally, we also have to sell and buy goods according to the grams So for this in Tally, we prepare compound units in which one kilogram of 1000 grams is made.

Example of Compound Unit of Measure

KG of 1000 Grams
Ton of 100 KG
Dozen of 12 Pcs
Box of 25 Nos (as per box item)
BDL(Bundles) of 10 Nos (as per Bundles item)

Compound Unit of Measure in Tally can be created in this way –

1- First of all go to Gateway of Tally under Main Window (Ctrl+M) of Tally.
2- Now we have to select Inventory Info under the Masters section.
3- Under this we will now get the option of Unit of Measure.
4- Click on Create option. On clicking, we will see this type of screen.

5- As soon as you click on Create, you are seeing the screen of Unit Creation, in which Simple is seen written under Type, which we have to change to Compound, for this you can directly click on Simple from MOUSE or Back. Using Button or using Sift + Tab, we have to go back, then from there we will click on Compound.

6- On clicking on the Compound option, we are showing the screen of Compound Unit Creation, in which we are seeing the option of Units With Multiplier Factor in which we have to define First Unit, Conversion and Second Unit.

For example, if we convert one kilogram to grams, then it will be 1000 grams, in the same way we have to prepare compound units, if we want to convert one kilogram into grams, then for that the unit deve conversion of KG to the first unit means that We have to define how many grams KG is, after that we have to give it to the village in the second unit.

Note – Keep in mind that before preparing Compound Unit, you have to prepare the first Unit and Second Unit in advance through Simple Unit.

Example :- Following items were purchased from Mr. Ambani stationery and 12% GST was paid on each item.

Unit of Measure in Tally

Like above you have bought a stock item Pen 5 Dozen which is priced at ₹ 36, as you know that there are 12 nos in a dozen, then we have to prepare Compound Unit of Measure to enter it in Stock like – Dozen of 12 Pcs,

Similarly, we have bought Stock Item Black Color which is 5.500 kg, obviously we have to prepare Compound Unit for example – KG of 100 Gm.

Now talk about Stock Item Note Book, School Bag which is given in number from which we have to prepare a simple unit, similarly Tally Book which is given to us in Pisces, so we have to prepare a simple unit for it too.
